Honolulu Film Camp is an immersive, hands-on filmmaking experience designed to empower young storytellers—especially those from Native Hawaiian and Micronesian communities—by providing them with the tools, confidence, and mentorship to share their voices.

Honolulu Film Camp 2025: Nurturing Culture, Empowering Community

Funded by the Ho‘opale and the DTL foundation and presented in collaboration with Cherry Street Films, Kōhina Media and Kūmau Productions, this camp is more than just a workshop. It’s a movement to elevate Hawaiʻi’s stories, nurture cultural identity, and amplify underrepresented voices in media. Join us in the Creativespace Studios at Entrepreneurs Sandbox this Summer!

Our Amazing Mentors

Bryson Chun

Bryson Chun is a Native Hawaiian Screenwriter who wrote for Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. on Disney+  and Moana 2 for Walt Disney Animation Studios. He was born and raised on the Windward side of O’ahu (96744 Represent). For all of the Hawai’i people reading this who want to know what high school he went to (this is a thing, trust me), he attended the Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama.

Bryson is also a proud teaching artist, having been a visiting writer and mentor for The University of Hawai’i’s School for Cinematic Arts, The Institute of American Indian Arts, The Sundance Indigenous Lab, PEAK Pasifika’s Writer Program, ‘Ohina Labs, LA Skins, and the Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation.

Erin Lau 

Erin Lau is a Native Hawaiian Producer-Director. She earned her MFA in directing at Chapman University and continued her growth through opportunities with the Sundance Institute, Tribeca Studios, Film Independent, Half Initiative, and more. 

Her films have screened in over 50 festivals across the world and have been featured on the Criterion Channel, Netflix, and PBS. She most recently directed an episode of the FOX series RESCUE: HI-SURF. 

Outside of her scripted work, Erin contributed to multiple award winning documentaries including producing the award-winning films DEAR ALOHA and STANDING ABOVE THE CLOUDS.

Gerard  Elmor

Gerard is an Emmy® award winning writer/editor/producer/director who has a range of experience varying from television production, film, music videos and TV commercials. His TV commercials have won multiple local Peles (ADDYs) & a national Gold ADDY award.

Elmore brings deep experience in branded content, commercials, and documentary filmmaking, including Ka Huakaʻi: The Journey to Merrie Monarch. He also leads ʻOhina, a collective dedicated to nurturing Hawai‘i-based filmmakers.

Brenda Lopez

I am a Script Supervisor working in film and television. I moved to Hawaii from Los Angeles in 2000, where I began my journey in this role on Baywatch Hawaii. I have worked on many film and television productions both on Oahu and the continent. My credits include Lilo & Stitch, Bros, Neighbors, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Blue Crush, Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I., and Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., among others.

I love what I do—every project is unique and brings new challenges, creative energy, and lasting memories.
